NCAA BB Freshman Phenoms
Many people said last year was the year of the Frosh with players such as Greg Oden, Mike Conely, Kevin Durant, Daequan Cook, and others who chose to go after just one year.
But did people really think this wouldn't continue? This year's freshman class includes tremendous players like O.J. Mayo, Kevin Love, Derrick Rose, Eric Gordon, and others. There are a lot of players that will have a big decision to make about the Draft.
So who should go and who should stay? Well, that's what I'm here for.
O.J. Mayo
First, we'll start with 6'4'' guard O.J. Mayo from USC. In my opinion he should go. Even though he is short for a shooting guard, he can still outrun his opponents up and down the floor which is what the NBA is mainly based around.
His is also a perimeter threat, a very smart player (most of the time) for his age, and has the ability to get to the rim and finish strong. He should enter the Draft.
Kevin Love
Next on the list is UCLA's big man Kevin Love. To be a big man in the NBA, you have to possess many skills, but there are three essential ones. You have to have low post moves, be able to grab the rebounds, and have the ability to stay out of foul trouble, especially in tight games.
In my opinion and in the opinion of many others he gets a check, check, and check. The key to getting big money is getting picked early. I just don't think he'll be picked early enough to get the money he wants. Also if you look at next years draft class, I really think he has a better chance at a lottery pick then. So even though he's ready, I think he should stay.
Derrick Rose
Derrick Rose is sound and a very good collegiate player. I still think he's not ready for the NBA, however. With the team he has at Memphis wouldn't you want to stay if you were unsure of your draft status. One rookie I compare him with is Daequan Cook, who was a very good player on a very good team. Cook made the mistake declare himself for the draft and look where he is now. The former Ohio State star is in is developmental league, not the NBA. Yes he is a good player, but just not good enough. So in my opinion, he should stay.
Eric Gordon
Best freshman? Many think so and I agree. With his great ability to knock down any three he takes or stop and pop at mid-range Eric Gordon is a potent weapon. He can also take it all the way to the rim and make a highlight reel finish. This season he has done all these things and he will continue to do them in the NBA. So in my opinion, he's should go and be lottery pick.
Make your own conclusions based on my choices, but what is for sure is that we have a very good freshman class. It can be argued that this class is better than last years.
