Durant, Instant Replay, Reed, A-Rod, Crawford and NFL Kick Off!
I don’t know a lot, but I know these five things are true:
1) Alex Rodriguez is having one hell of a season.
2) Will Ferrell plays the same role in every movie.
3) Reggie Miller is the greatest shooter in the history of basketball.
4) Eva Longoria is the most attractive woman in the world, besides Mrs. Scoop.
and…
5) The first game of the NFL season is better than Christmas.
KD to Start at the Two?: Reports out of Seattle are claiming that Kevin Durant, the second pick from June’s draft, is going to start at shooting guard for the Supersonics. Jeff Green, the Sonics’ other lottery pick, will either start at small forward or be one of the first players off the bench this season. I can’t wait for either of these guys to start their NBA careers in less than two months. With these two the Sonics have a bright future, whether it is in Seattle or not.
NBA to use more Instant Replay: The league’s Board of Governors voted last week to approve the use of instant replay by referees to review all Flagrant Foul Penalty Two calls and player altercations. The change will take effect this fall when the 2007-2008 season kicks off. This was a great decision by the league, especially after the Steve Nash-Robert Horry incident that took place in the Western Conference playoffs. I support any use of instant replay because it ensures the integrity of the game, and Lord knows the NBA needs more of that these days.
Reed Arrested for Marijuana Possession: Houston Rockets ’ swingman Justin Reed, a former member of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Boston Celtics , was released Wednesday after being arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Reed was arrested Tuesday night and released early yesterday morning. Reed was acquired by the Rockets in the trade that sent Juwan Howard to the Wolves earlier this summer. Justin hasn’t impressed many during his three NBA seasons, so I’d imagine that he’ll be hard pressed to find a suitor after his recent legal troubles.
A-Rod has MRI, Explodes: Alex Rodriguez had an MRI on his right ankle before last night’s game against the Mariners, and then promptly smacked two home runs in the seventh inning, leading the Yankees in a 10-2 victory. The win gave them a three-game lead in the Wild Card race. Joe Torre gave Alex half of the day off, playing him at DH after he tweaked his ankle while sliding into third base in Tuesday night’s win at Yankee Stadium. Rodriguez is having an absolute monster year. Major League Baseball might as well give him the AL MVP trophy now, so he can focus on another piece of hardware – the World Series crown.
MLB Suspends Crawford: Major League Baseball has suspended Tampa Bay outfielder Carl Crawford for two games for inappropriate actions against Baltimore on Monday. He was tossed during Monday’s game, but Crawford plans to appeal the suspension which will delay the punishment for at least a few days. The Devil Rays bats have been very active as of late, with Carlos Pena and Crawford leading the way. Both Pena and Crawford are on The Drew Crew, which means I’ll be keeping my eye on Crawford’s possible suspension. Next week marks the first period of the postseason, which means I may have to sit Crawford if he’s serving his suspension in the next few days.
Colts to make Reggie Bush a Priority: As I mentioned in the introduction, tonight marks the beginning of the NFL season with the Indianapolis Colts taking on the New Orleans Saints. The Times-Picayune is reporting that Tony Dungy and the Colts’ defense will be paying special attention to Saints’ running back Reggie Bush tonight, as they consider him to be the “wild card” of the New Orleans’ offense. I’m looking for fellow sophomore Joseph Addai to outshine Reggie Bush tonight, as he picks apart the Saints defensive front. My prediction for tonight’s game: Colts 31, Saints 17.
